Carnival time! You will be invited to join the fun with locals at the annual Carnival party. Around late February or beginning of March (the dates are movable, depending on the date of the Greek Orthodox Easter) there are ten days of fun when everyone celebrates the Carnival with feasts and fancy-dress parties and parades. Carnival is celebrated in every town but Limassol is the focus for the celebrations with traditionally the liveliest and most entertaining events. The first day of the Carnival sees a lively procession through the streets with scores of decorated floats and presented by – King and Queen of Carnival! Over the next few days there are numerous parties and parades and everyone is in a festive mood. On the last day of Carnival – Sunday - King Carnival bids everyone a lively cheerio for another year! |
Day 3 |
Full day of fun. Kite Flying Competition Derynia Village (Late February) Derynia is a village right by the Green Line up on the east coast around Ayia Napa, Paralimni and Protoras, the Ammochostos (Famagusta) District. Each year, there is a kite flying competition in the area, as the village is on top of a hill. From the village you can see views across the line to Varosha (Ghost town) , full of abandoned houses and luxury hotels, it was a former Celebrity tourist district of Famagusta in 60s but now resembles to be no one men town. It will have quite an impact on you. Should you want to participate in competition, just inform us on advance and go have some fun!

Day 5 |
During the day of the last day of the festival we will take you to Limassol castle where numerous parties and parades and everyone is in a festive mood. According to tradition Limassol Fortress is a place where Richard the Lion heart married Berengaria of Navarre and crowned her Queen of England in 1191. The fortified walls are of considerable archaeological interest and thought to be fragments of a much larger castle. We can stop for lunch in the old town (lunch is not included) In the afternoon we will continue to Ariel square where the live band and music will continue till midnight. |
Day 6 |
The day after the carnival ends is ‘Green Monday’ a really big family festival that marks the start of the 50-day Orthodox Lenten fast which ends after midnight on Easter Saturday. It signifies the beginning of leaving the sinful attitudes and non-fasting foods behind, prepare for cleanliness from within and externally and head towards Easter with a clean conscience, with forgiveness, and with renewed Christian love. On Green Monday or ‘Kathara Deftera’ everyone heads for the countryside with a huge vegetarian picnic and flying kites. There are many kite-flying competitions and some excellent stunt kites can be bought cheaply in local shops but many of the competitors have spent hours creating sizeable home-made kites and these are great fun to watch in action! Traditionally, it is considered to mark the beginning of the spring season. You will have a chance to enjoy traditional Green Monday with your family according to the Cypriot tradition and visit tavern by the beach for a full fish meze watching your children flying the kite. |
Day 7 |
Full day trip to Troodos Mountain. Right in the middle of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus towers Mt. Olympus. At just under 2,000m, it’s able to collect enough snowfall from late December to March to have its own resort. The slopes can be busy at the weekends and holidays, but it is normally quiet during the week with just small number of people on the slopes. Locals only just beginning to recognise snowboarding and up till now only skis are available to rent from the store situated next to the cafe adjacent to the 'sun valley' run. We will have late lunch at one of the restaurant on the pick of the Mountain Troodos before going back to the hotel. |
Day 8 |
After breakfast, free time to explore the city. Transfer from the hotel to the airport and return to Warsaw. |
